In this paper, the experimental results of cutting in the region of very small depth of cut are reported.　The specimen is set with a very small inclination to increase the depth of cut gradually in proportion to the cutting distance. When the cutting gets a desirable depth, it is stopped. Then the specimen is polished and etched. The deformation region is observed through a metallurgical microscope.　As the results, the chip formation occurs in a certain region, the region becomes narrower according to decrease in the depth of cut. Under a 1Oμ depth of cut it is regarded a simple plane.
