Accompaniment has quite an important role in that it draws out good points in a solo and compensates for any weaknesses a solo performance may have. When playing the pianoforte as an accompanist, one has to remember which instrument one is playing since the sound quality and volume differ considerably depending on the nature of the instrument. The sound volume in a solo, vocal ensemble, chorus, or chamber music differs so that a pianoforte accompanist must always keep in mind the balance between himself and the other instruments. I would like to discuss how the balance and musical expression in pianoforte accompaniment will change when the same piece is played by different instruments. In this paper, I will focus on Guitar violoncello・Sonata by Franz Peter Schubert. I will discuss the sound volume and effects when performed by Cello and Flute. I will also discuss how to express melody and the music as a pianoforte accompanist and when and how to adapt a motif in relation to the social background.
