基礎教養に求められる「自然科学概論」の試み

Faculty development is summarized and reported as liberal arts staff at the lecture of Introductory Natural Science. First year students of College level who learn this lecture do not know how to study in college and have slight interest in science. Under a theme of "Water", these students studied the followings: At first half semester of the class, the lecture concerning the properties of water is done with easy words, experiments, and demonstrations on the personal computer to make the students familiar to science. At the latter half of the semester, the students participate in an active fashion: they look for topics in which make themselves interest within the theme of water, doing research for the topics and then present it at the class. Immediately after the presentation of students, questions and comments are done and students should learn the critical thinking and methodology of natural science. Comment must be absorbed in a term paper. Study Skills must be carried out and be mastered at whole lecture. Through these study processes, students get rid of hate at science and hold an attraction at natural science. They go to the specialized curse with ambitious about the study. This is the educational aim finally obtained at fourth year at the lecture of Introductory Natural Science under the condition that this lecture has deep relation with specialized course at the College of complex filed and is required as liberal arts at universal stage.
