I feel that educational activities in museums seem to be recognized only as those which can be useful if they are carried out, but cause no problem even if they are not carried out. In fact, no opinion is raised that "museums are indispensable educational organization" in the discussions on responses against present anti-movements for museum construction, integration or abolition of museums, consignment of museum management to private sector, etc. In my opinion, such situation may tell us that museums have not found yet its own original function, in other words, they have been unable to present its own uniqueness as an educational method. I judge that objects may be looked to be only at the same commonplace level of educational method as those of books, photos and graphs shown on monitors of computers. In this report, firstly, I will check specific character of study activities in museums supported with existence of real objects. Secondly, I would like to introduce the following educational theories which can be expected to give us some useful hints and from which I could touch a part of valuable theories in recent years, for my purpose of building up educational methods which can not be realized without responding to real objects through visiting museums directly: Theory of Museum Experience by Linn D. Dierking Theory of Multiple Intelligences by Howard Gardner Theory of Gallery talk by Amelia Arenas Museum Education of Eilean Hooper-Greenhill Based on these theories, I will propose some problems that museums will build up theoretical basement regarding museum education as a necessary and indispensable existence as one of educational organizations.
