This study is to try to elucidate the renkus in the two volumes of "Betsuzashiki" and "Sumidawara" which embody Basho's 'karumi', the last literary style of his works. The kasen 'Ajisai-ya' in "Betsuzashiki" is paid particular attention to and is coupiously annoted so that we many definitely see what relations from the artistic point of view this kasen bears to the other four in "Betsuzashiki". In "Sumidawara" the difference between the kasens 'Ume-ga-ka' and 'Aji-sai-ya' is to be detected-for example, the difference in the treatment of characters in them. And in the kasens 'Aki-no-sora' and 'Kenko-mo', researches are made into how these kasens corre-spond to the new style of 'karumi' by Kikaku and Ransetsu, Basho's leading deciples.
