What amount of addition did Shiko make to the anthology "Zoku-sarumino"?-this is too difficult a problem to be solved more explicitly than today with all the research materials that have been obtained. There seems to be, therefore, no choice but to inquire persistently into every line of the anthology and to bring the judgment from its manner as to whether Basho himself had any concern with it or not. Those which others but Basho supplemented in the anthology must be eliminated, so that a genuine style of his work and his manner in his later years may more sufficiently be appreciated. Out of the five Kasen in the "Zoku-sarumino", the author has tried, in this issue, to sort out what may be presumed to be of Basho's revising, by means of analyzing and scrutinizing the anthology to the minutest details. In consequence of pursuing after the specific feature of Basho's works, namely, naturalness, fluency, wittiness and yet in variable dignity of his manner, the conclusion can hardly be avoided that 'Isamitatsu-taka' and 'Kara-no-ji-ya' were not looked over by Basho, while the three Kasen 'Hakkuken-yanagi', 'Shimo-no-shoro' and 'Natsu-no-yo-ya' are undoubtedly what he went through by himself.
