This thesis is a comparative study of 'Cheng's Commentaries' (鄭注) in Tun-huang-bon (敦煌本) first with Lun-yu-chi-chieh (論語集解), secondly with Cheng-bon (鄭本) in Ching-tien-shih-wen (経典釈文) and thirdly with the glosses inserted in the old Japanese manuscript copies of Lun-yu-chi-chieh and Cheng-bon in Ching-tien-shih-wen, in order to investigate what kind of place K'ung-shih-bon Cheng-shih-chu-lun-yu (孔氏本鄭氏注論語) discovered at 'Tun-huang' i.e. Tun-huang-bon occupies as Cheng-chu-lun-yu (鄭注論語). As for the texts of the old Japanese manuscript copies of Lun-yu-chi-chieh, I used Showa-bon Lun-yu-chi-chieh (正和本論語集解), Karyaku-bon Lun-yu-chi-chieh (嘉暦本論語集解), Kenmu-bon Lun-yu-chi-chieh (建武本論語集解) and Muneshige-bon Lun-yu-chi-chieh (宗重本論語集解). It goes without saying that Tun-huang-bon is a commentary book written by 'Cheng-Hsuan' (鄭玄) in the 'Hou Han' (後漢) period. But the fact that it differs from the other copies in some points shows that it is a different book from the Cheng-bon adopted by 'Ho Yen' (何晏) and others-compilers of Lun-yu-chi-chieh- and also from the Cheng-bon used by 'Lu Te-ming' (陸徳明), author of Ching-tien-shih-wen. And when we take into consideration many misprints and omissions in Tun-huang-bon, it cannot be said to be the best Cheng-chu-bon (鄭注本). Nevertheless it must be said that it is very valuable materials when we study various commentaries other than Cheng's in Lun-yu-chi-chieh and the lost commentaries written by various scholars on the text of Lun-yu to be found in old books.
