A simple method is presented for determination of the local ion temperature by the inverse Abel transform encountered when Doppler broadening of the spectral lines takes place in inhomogeneous plasmas. The case treated is for optically thin, axially symmetric plasmas in local thermal equilibrium. In this method only two spectral intensities from each Doppler profile are inverted into local intensities of the Doppler broadening. Local 1on temperatures are calculated from the relative value of these local intensities without reading the half-widths of local Doppler profiles inverted by point-by-point tramsforms as in the usual method. An example of the transform is given by considering hypothetical radial distributions of the plasma, and errors in this process are also discussed.
