This article is the Chapter 4 of the Second Part of the STS Series. It deals with the direct relationship of science and technology and society, whereas the treatment in the preceeding chapters are mediated problems with philospphy and sociology. The main issues are: (1) The infrastructure of science and technology in a extended sense, (2) Changing situation of observation and measurement which is intervened by the sophisticated systems, (3) the characteristics of now emerging "engineering science" which might open a perspective on the close relationship between science and technology, and (4) Closely connected science and technology and the contemporary induetrial society. In the last section, discussions are concentrated to the outcome of the computer and communication technology, now introduced into our society. Many concerned specialists are now afraid of a crisis: combined with the ever expanding credit in our global finance capitalism, this innovative technology might bring an unexpected outcome, economic chaos which were somewhat parallell to the nuclear nightmare.
