UVA Irradiated Epidermal Cell and Lymphocyte Interaction in Photosensitivity Dermatitis/Actinic Reticuloid Syndrome

UVA irradiated epidermal cell (UVA-EC) failed to stimulate peripheral blood lymphocyte derived from the patient with actinic reticuloid. Culture supernatant of UVA-EC cell also failed to stimulate lymphocyte in presence or absence of 1μg/ml of indomethacin. Marked suppressive activity of UVA-EC or their products was observed in ConA driven lymphocyte proliferation. Production of ETAF/IL1 by UVA-EC was nearly the same between the patient and normal subjects. On the contrary, production of low molecular weight, indomethacin resistant inhibitor for lymphocyte proliferation was evident by UVA-EC from the patient. These results indicate that in photosensitivity dertmatitis/actinic reticuloid syndrome, epidermal cell seems to be much more susceptible to UV irradiation and generate immuno suppresive substance after UVA irradiation.
