The leaf nodule endophyte of P. lanceolata and Ps. capensis has been repeatedly isolated in pure from their young buds. The cultural and morphological characteristics were as follows : 1. The isolant was obtained in pure only when kept the materials limited to comparatively high temperature (26=℃ ; for 24 hours or more. 2. Sedom or never isolated the endophyte directly from the leaf nodules of rubiaceous host plants. 3. The isolant grew best on pea-extract agar medium and made yellowish colony. 4. The isolant was motile and short rod (mostly, 1.1×0.5μ) with 1-9 peritrical flagella (1.5-12.0μ), gram-negative, non-acidal, no spore and granuleforming, and when aged somewhat enlarged but never branched. The author wishes to express his thanks to Prof. Tchan and Dr. Graham, University of Sydney, for their cooperation. He also ackowledges kindness offered by Dr. Tindale and others, National Herbarium N.S.W. in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney, and Mr. Ryu.
