Learners' cognitive aspect should be taken into consideration to see how learners take action in the process of learning a foreign language. In this paper, the influence of learners' beliefs over their learning is discussed, mainly focusing on self-efficacy and sense of control. A study concerning Japanese EFL learners' sense of control is also implemented.
