The purpose of the present paper is to bring forward a problem concerning the geological structures in the Joban coal-field, Fukushima Prefecture, based upon the field evidences. In conclusion it may be said that ; 1. The Taki coal-bearing Formation (Sugai and Matsui, 1957) is only the upper part of the Kunugidaira Formation (Hanzawa, 1957). 2. The stratigraphic relation between the Goyasu Formation and the Kunugidaira Formation is a partial unconformity. 3. The present studies revealed that the Takaku Group is superposed by the so-called Taga Group (Sugai and Matsui, 1957) with unconformity. 4. The Joban coal-field can be classified into three sedimentation areas of the Futaba, Iwaki North and Iwaki South Areas prior to the deposition of the Iwaki Formation, the lowest of the Tertiary stratigraphic units in the present area. It is noteworthy that each area makes a structural unit and that provenance influence on the respective sedimentary basins was reflected in the individual sedimentary rocks from the Iwaki Formation up to the Takaku. It is thought that the Futatsuya and Yunotake faults were responsible for dividing the investigated area into three smaller sedimentation areas as mentioned already.
