The characteristic features of crystal growth, crystal structure and structural phase transitions in InSe have been investigated. It is shown by specific heat measurement that the structural transitions in as-grown InSe from stoichiometric melt is considered to be due to peritectic reaction in In-Se system. By x-ray analysis and far IR reflectivity measurements it is confirmed that the crystal structure of InSe is a rhombohedral and belongs to the space group R3m. Several dominant effects of crystal imperfection and structural phase transition of InSe on optical and electrical properties have also been investigated.
