Nonlinear resonant structures in a thickness-shear-mode quartz resonator under intense excitation are investigated by numerical simulation. It is indicated that a dynamical symmetry breaking precursor generates driving forces in addition to primary driving force, which leads to period-doubling bifurcation. We also demonstrate suppression of the chaotic instabilities by means of a small periodic perturbation to the primary driving force.
