Successive observations of emission patterns of point cathode at high temperature after its various pre-treatments were made by using Muller-type microscope. Soon after the observation of the emission pattern, the shape of the tip was also examined under an optical microscope. As the results, it was found that the shape of the tip was spherical in the case where only the symmetrical pattern appeared. It was also found that the tip became a crystal having a grain boundary or double tips on heat treatment in the case where the cathode having non-uniform stress distribution was used.
