Using silver, copper, brass, and aluminium, etc. as slit material for objective electron lens the resolution of an electron microscope was determined from degree of roundness of corners of magnesium oxide crystal. Each slit was 9/100 mm thick and its aperture was 1/10 mm in diameter. It was found (i) that a silver slit had the best resolution, (ii) that the lowering of resolution due to contamination of a slit was mainly attributed to the disturbance of electrostatic field by charge up of electrons, and (iii) that a gold slit was the most suitable one for continuous working of an electron microscope.
