Studies on Analytical Methods for Trace Elements in Metals by Using Radioactive Isotopes. VIII : Simultaneous Spectrophotometric Determination of Tungsten, Molybdenum and Vanadium by Organic Solvent Extraction Method

Tungsten, molybdenum and vanadium were determined simultaneously by the organic solvent extraction method followed by the spectrophotometric measurement. From the sample solution cotnaining these three elements, molybdenum and vanadium were first extracted to chloroform layer in the presence of potassium xanthate, the absorbance of molybdenum being determined at 510 mμ, and vanadium at 375 mμ. Then tungsten was extracted by 2 per cent oxine-chloroform solution, the measurement being carried out at 400 mμ. Although other elements, such as iron, nickel etc., disturbed this method, they were removed by mercury cathode electrolysis and other methods. The present method enabled one to determine 0〜150 μg of tungsten, 0〜120 μg of molybdenum and 0〜70 μg of vanadium in steel.
