Studies on Analytical Method for Trace Elements in Metals by Using Radioactive Isotope. VII : Determination of Copper, Gallium and Antimony in Pure Silicon by Radioactivation Method

The trace amounts of copper, gallium and antimony in pure silicon were determined by radioactivation method. The sample was irradiated at the neutron flux of 10^<11> n/cm^2・sec, and silicon was removed from other elements by treating with the mixture of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid. From the residue after the removal of silicon, antimony was separated with the aid of manganese dioxide collector followed by the organic coprecipitation method. The filtrate from the manganese dioxide was brought to hydrochloric acid solution, and gallium was extracted by ether. Finally, copper was precipitated in the same way as the case of antimony from the solution after the extraction of gallium. By applying the above-mentioned method to the analysis of two kinds of samples, 0.016 and 0.020 ppm of of copper, 0.004 and 0.012 ppm of gallium, and 0.203 and 0.230 ppm of antimony could be determined.
