Anhydrous cellulose Xanthates have been prepared under perfectly anhydrous state, namely under the condition not using water as a solvent nor a catalyst. By adjusting the mol ratio of metallic sodium to cellulose, the γ value of the resulted cellulose Xanthate can be able to change arbitrarily. Cellulose xanthate having the theoretically highest γ=300 was compared to and discussed with those having γ=200 or less.
