The corrosion testing of tin was carried out with the same method used in the previous works. In the present investigation only the reaction between tin and nitric acid solution was tested. The following phenomena were observed : (1) Relation between the concentration of nitric acid solution and the corrosion rate of tin during 1 hour at room temperature. (2) The effect of stirring on the corrosion of tin in 64.5 and 10 per cent nitric acid solution. (3) The effect of temperature-up to 80° from room temperature on the corrosion of tin in 64.5 and 10 per cent nitric acid solution. (4) The effect of an addition of sodium chloride or of magnesium sulphate on the corrosion of tin in 10 per cent nitric acid solution. (5) The effect of an addition of oxidizing agents on the corrosion of tin in 10 per cent nitric acid solution. (6) The effect of an addition of organic substances such as dextrin and urea on the corrosion of tin in 10 per cent and 30 per cent acid solution. (7) Corrosion velocity curves of tin in 10 and 64.5 per cent nitric acid solution. (8) The passivity of α-tin and β-tin in concentrated nitric acid solution at room and at low temperatures.
