The goal of compact and sound urban development to contain sprawl is to secure urban sustainability through conservation of unfragmented open ecological networks and maximization of utility of the existing capital on central cities along with efficient integration of social and private facilities. This concept is to be based on a long-term cultural orientation of eco-community with focus on transformation of life consciousness, collectivization, dematerialization, decentralization, participation and symbiosis. There is growing reaction against the conventional city planning. We have recognized enormous losses caused by the conventional urban concept represented by congestion, obesity, noise, traffic accidents. Sustainability is considered not only within the framework of a defensive strategy, but also within the perspective of an offensive strategy, creation of water and green structures. The basic question is how to realize an ecologic al breakthrough. On the other hand, we have to consider that higher-density urban form promotes social equity. Social equity effects are considered centering on better access to facilities, green space, job, public transport, opportunities for walking and cycling, domestic living space, health, affordable housing and care efficiency.
