PB17 Novel Blue Phase and Electro-optical Effects in a (ferroelectric and nematic) Liquid Crystal Mixture Systems

The phase behaviour and aggregation states of a binary composite constructed from ferroelectric and nematic liquid crystal have been investigated. The ferroelectric 11b2C was miscible with the nematic. The binary mixture showed chiral nematic, blue, induced smectic A^* and TGB phase. Reversible and bistable opaque-transparent change was easily achieved by applied ac and dc electric fields.
