The Tatsunokuchi formation is extensively distributed in the envrions of Sendai city, and is unconformably superposed with the Kitayama formation. The writer has dealt with the stratigraphical meaning of the unconformable boundary above mentioned. He showed the structure contour map of the unconformable boundary between both formations and of a marker bed in the Tatsunokuchi formation (Fig. 5), the isopach map of the same formation (Fig. 4), the distribution map of the Tatsunokuchi formation (Fig. 3), and a stratigraphical cross-section of the same formation (Fig. 2). From these materials, it seems that the uplifting of the sea bottom gradually took place during the deposition of the upper part of the Tatsunokuchi formation. Its uplifting resulted in the disconformable boundary between both formations. This is well observed in the type cross-section of the Tatsunokuchi Gorge.
