A Study on Group Sequential Procedure with Inner Boundaries

In this study we propose a group sequential procedure which reduces the average sample number in the repeated significance tests for the hypothesis of no difference between two treatments. Group sequential procedure is characterized by the repeated confidence boundaries constructed for realizing the test based on the probability of Type I error specified in advance. It is necessary to devise the group sequential procedure for reducing the average sample number because we often need a large sample when the difference between two population means is small. Thus we construct the group sequential procedure which has the inner boundaries intending to accept the null hypothesis at an early stage based on the probability of Type II error. We compare our group sequential procedure with the usual group sequential procedure in terms of the average sample number in simulations.
