Temperature Dependence of Phonon Hole Position

The frequency where the phonon hole is detected in piezoelectric powder particles shows negative temperature dependence. When the temperature is decreased or increased from the temperature at which the hole was written into the piezoelectric powder, the half-height width of the hole becomes broader and the hole height decreases, and the hole finally becomes undetectable. Then as the temperature returns to the writing temperature, the hole recovers its form. These phenomena are explained as being due to the specimen particles not being uniform in size and/or the crystallographic angle and the hole being composed of many different modes of oscillation whose temperature dependences differ from each other.
