Photoperiodic Response of Domestic Drosophila funebris (Diptera, Drosophilidae), with Reference to its Adaptive Significance

Two local strains of Drosophila funebris (FABRICIUS, 1787), a well-known cosmopolitan domestic species, showed a clear-cut reproductive diapause in response to photoperiodic and temperature conditions. They differed from each other in the intensity of diapause. The strain collected in a natural forest had a deeper diapause intensity than that found in a human residence. Crossing experiments between these strains suggested that the diapause intensity might be controlled polygenically.
