The compressibility of solute obtained from measurements of ultrasonic velocity at 1 or about 3 MHz provided information on intermolecular potentials of segment (mixing unit of a polymer chain) in polymer solutions. The difference in solution properties between the theta and the good-solvent phases was interpreted from the viewpoint of intermolecular potentials of segments using the compressibility model. The new acoustic parameter in the MHz range was found to be proportional to the excluded volume of segments obtained from static measurements at 0 Hz in good solvents.
