Single crystals of FeCr_2S_4 grown by chemical vapour transport of CrCl_3 and FeS in a quasiclosed tube system exhibit growth patterns of elementary steps and multi-steps. The growth mechanism of the multi-step patterns was investigated under a Nomarski-type interference contrast microscope. The step height was determined by the interference fringes of a Michelson-type interference microscope. The multi-steps, 2-5 times as high as an elementary step, grow with interaction between steps including elementary ones and from irregular spirals. Such growth mechanism will originate from an aggregate of plural screw dislocations at the growth centre.
