Magnetic singnals from skeletal muscles are obtained when the muscles are contracted. A SQUID magnetometer with a first derivative gradiometer coil is used in a magnetically shielded room. The signals are pulse shaped and together form what is called a magnetomiogram (MMG). The MMG of a right human leg is studied. The waveform of the MMG pulse signal is observed having a pulse width of 4 ms. The position of the MMG signal source is estimated using the dependence of the signal amplitude on the distance between the skin over the leg and the outer surface of the dewar tail. The estimated position of the MMG source is 1 cm beneath the skin.
