A novel ultrasonic inverse scattering tomographic technique was recently developed by the authors using the introduction of the backward propagation Rytov approximation to improve significantly the quantitative precision of a sound parameter image of a weak scattering tissue like object. Thus far, examinations were made only for the sound velocity parameter image for lossless case. However, an image of attenuation can be precisely reconstructed as well as the image of the sound velocity is expected to be useful in medical diagnostic applications. To this end, the present paper investigates the quantitative precision of the inverse scattering parameter image with special emphasis on the realization of an image of attenuation.
