Sometimes KAWARA (roofing tile) cracks during baking. The cracks cause leaking when it rains and weaken the kawara. For this reason this study explored NDT (nondestructive testing) to find cracks in kawara by observing characteristic vibrations in tiles when they are subjected to impulse ultrasound. Vibrations of kawara are detected with a transducer and analyzed with a personal computer. It was found that cracks in kawara can be detected and their lengths determined by this method.
