The cross-sections of the ^<23>Na(n, γ)^<24>Na and ^<41>K(n, γ)^<42>K reactions at the thermal energy are determined using the activation method. The beta activity of powdery samples is measured, and consideration of the back scattering due to the bottom of the vessel is important. This paper introduces a new method for determining this factor. For the ^<23>Na(n, γ)^<24>Na and ^<41>K(n, γ)^<42>K reactions, the cross-sections obtained by this method are 577±8 mb and 1.57±0.17 b respectively.
