Measurement of the Storage Time of N_2 Ions Trapped in an RF Ion Trap

The storage time of N_2 ions trapped in an rf ion trap was determined by resonant absorption of a probing rf field by the trapped ions. It was found that the product between the peak value and the full width at half maximum of the resonant absorption signal was linearly dependent on the total number of trapped ions, and also confirmed that the addition of He gas lengthened the storage time.
