A sequential field ton microscope (FIM) observation of the progress of Mo deposition on a tungsten substrate at 55 K has been made, with the aid of a video system. Some of the image spots of deposited adatorns which appeared on the W(110) plane were found to disappear during further deposition, which suggests that an adatom is expelled from its adsorption site by an impinging atom, and acquires a mobility on the substrate surface even at cryogenic temperatures.
