A reflection-type tunable liquid-crystal Fabry-Perot filter, in which the input light beam passes through a cell twice after reflection by a minor, is shown to have improved transmission characteristics. Simulation and experimental results show that this is an effective way to decrease the cross talk between neighboring channels, even though there is a slight increase in loss due to the double pass and the minor. When these filters are applied to wavelength division multiplexing systems with analog-amplitude modulation, they increase the channel capacity to three times the original value.
