Development of New Electrochemical Synthesis of Oxides: Electrolytic Deposition of La_2CuO_4 Thick Layer on Zirconia Surface in Molten Salt

A new method for electrochemical synthesis of oxides in molten salt was developed. The following galvanic cell was assembled and electrolysis was carried out at 973 K between the electrodes LaB_6 vs Pt/O_2 and between Cu vs Pt/O_2 simultaneously. Pt, LaB_6 |80%KCl-14%NaCl-(6-x)%LaCl_3-x%CuCl_2|ZrO_2(Y_2O_3)|O_2, Pt Pt, Cu Formation of almost-single-phased La_2CuO_4 on the ZrO_2(Y_2O_3) surface was confirmed when the ratio of electric currents passed through electrodes LaB_6 vs Pt/O_2 and Cu vs Pt/O_2 was controlled to 3:1.1 and the molten salt composition was fixed at 80%KCl-14%NaCl-6%LaCl_3.
