A method for performing simultaneous measurements of the basis weight (B) and the moisture weight (M) of sheet materials has been developed by using a microwave rectangular cavity. The resolution of simultaneous measurements of BM weights of paper is not good owing to the low Q-value of the cavity. The Q-value is improved by employing a re-entrant cylindrical cavity, yielding better resolution and sensitivity.
