We have studied the effects of Bi-doping on the perpendicular anisotropy in sputtered Gd(Fe<1-x>Co_x) amorphous films. Over the range of 0≦3x≦l, the perpendicular anisotropy increases remarkably with the addition of Bi-atoms together with the shift of saturation magnetization toward the transition metal TM dominant magnetically. GdFe films dopedwith Bi have a perpendicular anisotropy even when prepared under a bias-potential application. The increase ofanisotropy by Bi-doping is interpreted neither by the term of a stress nor by a simple shape anisotropy. It is consideredthat the segregation of non-ferromagnetic GdBi_x, takes place. The alignment of the TM dominant phase in the region ofGdBi, would be the origin of a large perpendicular anisotropy.
