The relationships between the thermal conductivity of a foamed plastic and the volume fraction of cells are studied theoretically for a statistical cell model, a special closed-cell model and a special open-cell model under the assumption of one-dimensional flow of heat. The thermal conductivity of the open-cell model is expressed as a function of the volume fraction of cells by solving a cubic equation. The thermal conductivity of each model is shown graphically as a function of the volume fraction of cells.
