The Structure of Magnetic Thin Films Evaporated with Oblique Incidence

In order to clarify the structure of films with oblique incidence, the magnetic anisotropy was measured for Fe-Ni alloy films evaporated obliquely both on glass substrates and the surfaces of silicon grease. An X-ray small angle scattering pattern was obtained for the aluminium-Permalloy composite film deposited obliquely from the opposite side. As the simulation of X-ray scattering, the Fraunhofer diffraction pattern of laser beam was taken for a model of the chain structure in these films. The demagnetizing field factor of the chain structure and the value of anisotropic stress were estimated for these Fe-Ni films as 0.13 and 6.8×10^8 dyn/cm^2 respectively. The average width of a chain was about 56Å which is obtained from the analysis of X-ray scattering pattern. The laser beam diffraction gave an evidence for the images of the structure of obliquely deposited films.
