A method for determining viscoelastic constants of high-elastic gels such as agar-agar, gelatin and soy-bean curd is proposed. In this method longitudinal vibrations of a cylindrical gel in silicone oil is analysed. The frictional force acting on the sides of a cylinder is calculated using Navier-Stokes equation. Observed vibrations are compared with the calculation and experimental results for vibrations in air. The temperature dependence of viscoelastic constants is studied. For lower frequency measurements longitudinal vibrations with both ends fixed are used. Temperature control is easy and reproducibility is better for measurements in liquids than in air. Measurements of viscoelastic constants are made for concentrations down to 0.3 % in the case of agar-agar gels.
