The shear relaxation modulus of melt-crystallized linear polyethylene with and without CCI_14 from 5 sec to 30 min after the application of a strain is measured from - 185℃ to - 25℃. The loss modulus at very low frequencies calculated from these data reveals a fine structure in the y-loss band of this polymer with three component relaxations, A master curve, relaxation spectrum and shift factor are determined by the method of reduced variables for each of the three relaxations designated as γ_1, γ_2 and γ_3 in the order of descending temperature. The activation energies fot the γ_1-, γ_2- and γ_3-relaxations are estimated at ca 22 kcal/mol,II kcal/mol and,9 kcal/mol respectively. It is found that the γ_1- and the γ_2-relaxations are shifted to higher tem-peratures by the presence of CCI_4, but the activation energy and the shape of the spectrum for each of these relaxations are not affected by it.
