The sign and value of photoelastic constants, q_<11>-q_<12> and q_<44> for SrTiO_3 crystal are reexamined using a polarizing microscope. It is concluded that SrTiO_3 becomes an optically positive uniaxial crystal when compressed along a crystallographic axis, having the photoelastic constants q_<11>-q_<12>=+(12.6±0.8)×10^<-14>cm^2/dyn and q_<44>=-(4.8±0.5)×10^<-14>cm^2/dyn.
