The effect of Ag, Sn, Bi, Al and Se nucleation centers predeposited onto glass substrates on the grain growth of evaporated Te films has been investigated. Of the materials used here, only Ag and Sn islands which are not exposed to air prior to Te deposition have been found to stimulate a remarkable grain growth of Te films. Electron diffraction studies revealed that the formation of alloys always occurs between the nucleation material and Te in the early stages of Te depositions when the nucleation material is effective in the Te grain growth.
