The viscosity of a solution (or suspension) as a function of concentration has been formulated from a reassessment of Einstein's original work. Solute molecules are assumed rigid, spherical and fairly large compared with solvent molecules. Starting from the flow pattern around single spheres, the principle of superposition has been used to calculate the pattern for multi-particles having a size distribution. The applicability of the equation in predicting the viscosity of a concentrated rather than dilute solution characterized by a size distribution in solute molecules has been suggested theoretically and confirmed by experiments.
