A new type evaluation scheme on crankshaft stress (strain) level is described in this paper. In the calculation, all the loads applied to a crank throw such as crankpin fore, constraining moment from contiguous throw, vibratory inertia force are evaluated, and all strain responses by these forces using a new concept called 'Response Factor', are calculated and summed up to obtain total response. The response factor is defined as the ratio of strain response to external concentrated force, and it is classified to 9 types according to kinds of the applied load and positions. The every response factor at crankpin fillet position is obtained effectively by the calculation using F. E. M (Finite Elements Method) zooming model of the pin fillet. Moreover, measurements were carried out on two kinds of long stroke engines to know the stress condition of the crankshaft. The results show that the pin fillet's strain along radial direction has much effect of the constraining moment from the contiguous throws and of the axial vibration. The high reliability and great effectiveness of the method are shown by the fact that calculation results by the new method correspond to measured ones fairly well.
