A new calculation method, which enables suitable estimation of vibration and strength concerning crank shafting of recent 2-stroke cycle marine diesel engines, is desired, because conventional methods have difficulties in application to such type engines. Theoretical analysis as well as full scale measurement has been carried out by the authors. As a result, a new analysis system has been established. The system is mainly composed of the free vibration analysis routine and the forced vibration analysis routine. Evaluation method of crank throw stiffness by FEM calculation and a new determination method of crank exciting forces are introduced. One can analyze torsional, axial and coupled torsional-axial vibrations of shafting system. Calculation results by the new method show good agreement with measured ones.
