F-actin organization in the tip-growing cells of fern protonemata was investigated by rhodamine-phalloidin staining in two species: Adiantum capillus-veneris and Pteris vittata. Circular arrangement of cortical F-actin was as found around the subapical region of protonemal cells in both species. In rhizoids, such structures were absent and the axial filaments appeared to fan out from the tip.
