Nostoc verrucosum ferredoxins Fd I and Fd II were found to have different amino acid compositions. Fd I had 98 amino acid residues of Trp_0, Lys_4, His_1, Arg_1, Asp_<14>, Thr_8, Ser_6, Glu_<14>, Pro_4, Gly_7, Ala_<10>, Cys_4, Val_5, Met_0, Ile_6, Leu_8, Tyr_5, Phe_1 while Fd II had 99 residues of Trp_1, Lys_4, His_1, Arg_1, Asp_<18>, Thr_7, Ser_6, Glu_<14>, Pro_5, Gly_5, Ala_6, Cys_5, Val_6, Met_1, Ile_6, Leu_8, Tyr_4, Phe_1. From the amino acid compositions, molecular weights were calculated to be about 10,500 for Fd I and 10,700 for Fd II. The amino terminals of both Fd I and Fd II were alanine. The carboxyl terminal sequence of Fd I was -Glu-Leu-Tyr and that of Fd II was -Glu-(Ser, Ala)-Leu-Ala. Fd I was more resistant against heat denaturation than Fd II.
